12th August is celebrated as National Librarian’s Day on the occasion of birth anniversary of the father of Library Science in India Dr. S. R. Ranganathan (1892-1972). On 11th August, 2017 Teesta-Indus Central Library, Sikkim University celebrated National Librarian’s Day for the second time to pay tribute to the great national professor of Library Science on his 125th birth anniversary. Day is celebrated all over India by library professionals in the memory of Dr Ranganathan to revisit his contributions to world librarianship and draw inspiration to take the profession to its heights.

The programme began with the welcome address given by Ms. Sarbada Pradhan, Asst. Librarian, Sikkim University. It was followed by a welcome song sung by all library staff. The programme was unveiled by lighting the candle by Dr. Chawdhary, COE-SU to the portrait of Dr. Ranganathan followed by cutting of cake.
There were short inspirational and motivational speeches by the guests to the young library professional staff keeping Dr Ranganathan as an ideal and role model who brought Indian librarianship at global level by his hard work and prolific writings.
The programme was concluded with vote of thanks by Manish Soni, Inf. Scientist, Sikkim University followed by a lunch.
