A Short -Term Workshop organized by Teesta-Indus Central Library Sikkim University in collaboration with Elsevier was held at Badad Sadan on 15th of June 2017. The theme of the workshop was “Author Workshop and Presentation on Plagiarism Test Using URKUND”.
The distinguished participants were the faculty and research scholars. Prof T B Subba, Vice-Chancellor, SU and Shri T K Kaul, Registrar, SU graced the event with their presence.
The workshop started with the welcome address by Prof. A S Chandel, Librarian, SU. It was followed by the introductory presentation by Mr. Arnab from Elsevier. Dr. Sangeeta Mehta, Regional director- South Asia- research solution sales, Elsevier Relx India Pvt Ltd talked at length on Author Workshop. She highlighted pros & cons of writing a good article. She discussed in detail about different types of manuscript, author and different parts of a good write up. She outlined the dos and don’ts that every author should know for publishing an article with a good publisher; checklists for authors in getting high Hirsch Index (h-index). Dr. Sangeeta highlighted Mendeley – A reference manager tool, one of the Elsevier’s services, which can help an author in managing the references or bibliography. Overall her presentation was very stimulating and encouraging.
Post hi-tea break was the presentation by Mr. Arnab from Elsevier. He talked about the new service of Elsevier i.e., Reference Module which provides subject- focused collections of current encyclopedic and comprehensive articles from Elsevier’s world-leading Major Reference Works, combined with new and exclusively- written articles within the discipline to create one online, authoritative information source hosted on a trusted platform, ScienceDirect. This time-stamped, continuously updated content, curated by an expert Editorial Board, is built for the demands of today’s research environment to support researchers’ seamless success.
It was followed by the presentation on URKUND leading by Dr. Mohan Pratap Pradhan, HOD, Dept. of Computer Applications, SU and assisted by Shri Manish Soni, Information Scientist, Central Library, SU. Dr. Pradhan gave a very brief and informative presentation on URKUND – Plagiarism Software. He discussed different modules of the software and steps involved in uploading a document for plagiarism test.
The feedback forms were circulated and collected for participants’ response. The Short-Term workshop ended with the vote of thanks by Prof. A S Chandel, Librarian, SU.
