Teesta-Indus Central Library Sikkim University in collaboration with INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network), Gandhinagar organized National Workshop from November 28-30, 2016 on the theme \u201cContent Management Systems and Library Software Applications\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participants of Worksh<\/strong>op:\u00a0<\/strong>The workshop attracted number of participation from different parts of Sikkim.\u00a0 There were 37 registered participants in the workshop.<\/p>\n

28 November 2016\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inaugural Fu<\/strong>nction:\u00a0<\/strong>The Inauguration of workshop began with a welcome address by Ms. Sarbada Pradhan, Assistant Librarian, Sikkim University.\u00a0 Prof. T B Subba, Vice-Chancellor,\u00a0Sikkim University chaired the session. Other distinguished guests included Shri. T K Kaul, Registrar, Sikkim University, Dr. Debashish Chawdhury, Controller of Examinations, Sikkim University and Dr. Miteshkumar Pandya, Scientist B., INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar.<\/p>\n

Prof. A S Chandel, Librarian, Sikkim University in his introductory address emphasized the need of organizing this workshop for library professionals of the state to update them with the advances in information technology and thanked Director INFLIBNET having sponsored this workshop. He highlighted the importance of creation of digital resources in the present digital era\u00a0which needs consorted efforts by various institutions.<\/p>\n

The resource person, Dr. Miteshkumar Pandya, Scientist B, INFLIBNET Centre, Gandhinagar spoke on the activities of the \u00a0\u00a0INFLIBNET Center.<\/p>\n

Prof. T B Subba, VC, Sikkim University in his Chairman\u2019s remarks pointed out that all e-contents available are not useful and young generation of today is not accessing right type e-contents.\u00a0 Therefore, only useful contents should be created and made available for wider accessibility, he further emphasized. He concluded stating that technology is a tool and should be used only as a tool.<\/p>\n

Launching of Library Website<\/strong><\/p>\n

On this occasion, library website, developed using WordPress an open source CMS platform was launched by the Vice-Chancellor designed in-house by Shri Adip Tirwa, Technical Assistant, Central Library, Sikkim University under the guidance of the Librarian.<\/p>\n

The session was anchored by Ms. Sarbada Pradhan, Asst. Librarian, Sikkim University.<\/p>\n

First lecture on Content Creation using Joomla was taken by Dr. Miteshkumar Pandya, Scientist B, INFLIBENT Centre, Gandhinagar. Dr. Pandya gave the brief introduction to CMS and talked at length about Joomla. Post lunch session was taken by Shri Vivek Moktan, System Analyst, Sikkim University. He taught how content can be created using Joomla.<\/p>\n

29 & 30 November 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n

Apart from teaching content creation using Joomla software, other topics covered were as below:<\/p>\n

  4. Data entry using koha – By Kuntal Pramanick<\/li>\n
  5. Content Analysis for retrieval – By Prof A S Chandel<\/li>\n
  6. MS EXCEL – By Dr. Mohan Pratap Pradhan, HOD, Dept. of Computer Applications,Sikkim Univ.<\/li>\n
  7. Knimbus – By Mr. Manish Soni, Information Scientist, Sikkim University<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    It was followed by interaction and feedback. The filled in feedback forms from the participants were received.<\/p>\n

    The Valedictory Function\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The valedictory function started with the Report given by Prof. A S Chandel, Librarian Sikkim University. Shri Jitendra Singh Raje IAS, Director, Higher Education, Govt. of Sikkim was the chief guest who gave away the mementos to the resource persons.<\/p>\n

    In his speech, chief guest, Shri Jitendra Singh Raje IAS, talked on importance of e-content and content creation. He mentioned that he will initiate advanced library system in colleges of Sikkim very soon. He further appreciated the remote access service being provided by Central Library, Sikkim University to the affiliated colleges of Sikkim.<\/p>\n

    Chief Guest Shri Jitendra Singh Raje Giving Mementos\u00a0to Presenters<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Dr. Debashish Chawdhury, Controller of Examination, Sikkim University gave the chairman\u2019s remarks. Mr. Manish Soni, Information Scientist, Sikkim University gave vote of thanks.<\/p>\n

    The 3 days\u2019 national workshop on \u201cContent Management Systems and Library Software Applications\u201d ended with distribution of certificates and hi-tea.<\/p>\n
